We did a review of the All Seasons E-Compact in 2016 when it scored 8.4/10 our “Best in Class 2016” folding ebike, and one of our highest scoring electric bikes reviewed to date. The reasons it lost out on the extra 1.6 score was mainly due to the weight, lack of a gearing system and a PAS control unit. Now I don’t know if the guys over there at All Seasons read our review, hopefully they do, but with the new 2017 model of the E-Compact, dubbed the G2, guess what, they’ve added Shimano gears and a PAS control unit with 3 levels of pedal assistance! So how did the G2 score this time? Take a look at the bottom of the review!
This makes the E-Compact now a lot more flexible, with the option to use it as a standard bike as well as an electric model. It does also however, as you’d imagine, raise the price of the bike by a few hundred pounds, now at £995. This is still pretty good value for an ebike with this specification, and particularly a folding electric bike which has the ability to be used with or without pedal assistance.
The weight is still a bit of an issue, weighing in at 21kg, but until battery and motor technology improves it will be hard to go sub-20kg on a fully geared folding electric bike with a robust frame.
If you’re looking for a folding electric bike this is still our category winner, but we do hope to add a lot more folding bike reviews this year as they’re a hot category within ebikes.
